ENGINE TAKES LONGER THAN NORMAL TO REACH FULL SPEED IN GEAR

Urgency: Not urgent, but should be monitored

Suggested actions:

1. Check for a plugged air or fuel filter.

2. Check for line or other obstruction on the propeller.

3. Check the engine service manual for recommendations.

4. Check the bottom of the boat for fouling.

5. If there were recent repairs, contact your marine mechanic.

The problem may also result from insufficient throttle travel due to a faulty governor control linkage, a poorly adjusted throttle control, or even something like a bolt that’s too long and causes a restriction of the governor control at the engine. A propeller of incorrect size is another possibility.
